What the Hell is Going on at CBS News?

I would have given anything to have seen this live, but I guess I'll just have to deal with the quote.

CBS News has issued an apology for White House correspondent John Roberts' choice of words in describing Supreme Court Nominee Judge Sam Alito.

Here's what he said:
Scott, you said that - or the President said, repeatedly, that Harriet Miers was the best person for the job. So does that mean Alito is sloppy seconds, or what?
It gets better, though. The "Scott" that Mr. Roberts was addressing was none other than White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan. Granted, this all happened during the informal press gaggle that precedes the daily briefing, but still, not the kind of language you tend to hear coming out of network news.

It is an accurate description of the President's nomination, though. Like I wrote before, if Mr. Bush said that Harriet Miers' strength was that she had no judicial experience, what should we infer from his replacement nomination having more judicial experience than any other Supreme Court appointee in the past 70 years?
