I Love the Smell of Hypocrites in the Morning

I've been beside myself with morbid glee for the past few days over the Right Wing's reaction to Harriet Miers' nomination to the Supreme Court. Every time I flip to CNN or check a news site there's some new big-name Neo-Con bitching about why she is the wrong choice for the court. Some parts of the GOP are so upset over the nomination that they might actually block it!

Man, that's some harsh shit right there. Especially after they've been whining for the past 5 years about how the Democrats have been fillibustering all of their judicial nominees. I wonder what the country will say to that... Realistcally? Nothing. But one can hope.

Anyway, what I find terribly amusing about this whole thing is that while the most vocal complaint is that she has absolutely no judicial esperience, all the biggest rants get published almost immediately after some new revelation that she may not be as conservative as everyone thinks. First, there was the Democratic campaign donations to Al Gore and the DNC in 1988 and 1989, then there was the apparently unsolicited and unrequired support of full civil rights for gays during an '89 Texas election, and now there's this big revelation that none of her friends think she ever wanted to see Roe vs. Wade overturned.

I honestly believe that if she was some sort of proven, unabashed unltra-conservative, we wouldn't be seeing the GOP eat itself alive like this.
