Light Transmitting Concrete

Light Transmitting Concrete is exactly what you'd imagine: concrete through which light can pass. The picture pretty much explains its function.

The stuff is made by mixing concrete with glass fiber optical strands, resulting in a partially translucent rock.

I'd imagine this stuff would be good for public buildings and such where natural, low-cost lighting would be a plus.

Looks like a German by the name of Andreas Bittis came up with the stuff. His site just looks like an internet business card, though.

You know, concrete is nice and all, but they really need to get cracking on transparent aluminum. How cool would it be to a windshield made of metal?
